SKY express calls on the HASP’s management to assume responsibility for the disruption caused to thousands of passengers and employees
AnnouncementJun 12, 2026SKY express wishes to inform the travelling public that the extensive delays experienced on 10 and 11 June 2026, affecting arrivals and departures to and from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”, are linked to an inspection that the Hellenic Aviation Service Provider (HASP) decided on and gave notice of only on 9 June, to be carried out on the airport’s approach systems and, in particular, on the Instrument Landing System (ILS).
Throughout those two days, SKY express made every possible effort to limit the inconvenience to its passengers, immediately activating the full range of its operational support and customer service procedures. The company’s teams at the airport and at its operations centre worked intensively to keep passengers informed in good time and to provide them with the best possible service.
SKY express strongly objects to the HASP management’s decision to conduct an inspection of this scale at the peak of the tourist season, when it could have been scheduled months earlier or during night-time hours, and without prior, timely notice. The lack of coordination deprived air carriers of the ability to adjust their flight schedules in time, in order to limit the consequences for passengers and to safeguard the smooth operation of the airport. The result was widespread disruption for the travelling public, for airline staff, for air traffic controllers, for the personnel of the Hellenic Aviation Service Provider itself, and for the overall operation of Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”.
The company believes that actions of such gravity must carry the corresponding accountability, and it calls on the Governor of the HASP to assume the relevant responsibility. At the same time, it asks the competent authorities to ensure, from now on, that any action capable of materially affecting the operation of the airport is accompanied by timely and complete notice to airlines, with a clear assessment of the impact and an appropriate coordination plan, in order to protect passengers and safeguard Greece’s image as an international tourism destination.
SKY express thanks its passengers for their understanding and patience.
