SKY express Strengthens Northern Greece Connectivity with Direct Thessaloniki–Düsseldorf Flight

AnnouncementNov 25, 2025

SKY express, the Greek airline, is expanding its presence at Macedonia Airport with a new direct Thessaloniki–Düsseldorf route. The service operates with state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, three times a week (Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) throughout the year.

Following the direct Thessaloniki–Larnaca connection, which the airline has consistently operated since 2021, the new Thessaloniki–Düsseldorf route further enhances SKY express’s international reach and reaffirms its ongoing investment in Northern Greece. At the same time, the airline connects Thessaloniki with eight domestic destinations and an extensive network via Athens, as SKY express remains the only airline with the largest network of destinations in the country.

Thessaloniki is one of the key pillars of the company’s growth strategy, with passenger traffic increasing by 5.5% compared to last year, highlighting the trust of travellers and SKY express’s unwavering commitment to investing in Thessaloniki and its passengers.

The airline serves a total of 27 international destinations, expanding its global footprint and strengthening its strategic focus on high-value markets, making Greece an even more attractive year-round destination.

At the special ceremony organized by Macedonia Airport for the first Thessaloniki–Düsseldorf flight, Mr. Gerasimos Skaltsas, Chief Commercial Officer of SKY express, stated: “We are particularly delighted to launch the new direct route between Thessaloniki and Düsseldorf. This connection marks an important milestone for our company, further strengthening Northern Greece’s links with Central Europe and creating new opportunities for the city and the wider region. At the same time, it reaffirms our continuous presence and commitment, offering more travel options to our passengers and supporting the local community. Thessaloniki constitutes a strategic hub for us, a fact underscored by the planned seat capacity for 2026, which will reach one million, highlighting the city’s steadily increasing significance within our network.”

Ms. Katerina Pollatou, Airline Marketing & Development Manager/Commercial & Business Development at Fraport Greece, commented: "We are delighted to welcome SKY express’s new Thessaloniki–Düsseldorf route, which further strengthens the airline’s presence at Macedonia Airport. Thessaloniki is a destination with significant potential and growing appeal in key foreign markets, making this connection particularly important. Fraport Greece will continue to consistently support SKY express’s growth across the 14 regional airports, providing a well-structured operational environment and ensuring close, productive collaboration in all areas."

We are delighted that SKY express is continuing to strengthen its commitment at Düsseldorf Airport,” said Dr Henning Pfisterer, SVP Aviation at Düsseldorf Airport. “By adding Thessaloniki, the airline is expanding its network with another important destination. The city is not only appealing to holidaymakers but also holds special significance for many people in North Rhine-Westphalia who have family roots or close ties to northern Greece. They now have more travel options, and the close cultural and family bonds between our region and Greece are being further strengthened.”

As part of its ongoing commitment to support connectivity in Thessaloniki and the wider region, SKY express actively participated once again in Northern Greece’s largest tourism exhibition, Philoxenia-Hotelia 2025. The airline held substantial meetings with industry professionals, partners, and organizations, reaffirming both its active support of the local community and its pivotal role in promoting Greek tourism in international markets.
