SKY express: Writing the Future in the Sky with 5 New International Destinations

AnnouncementJun 26, 2025

SKY express stole the show at the event held on Tuesday, June 24, at the Olympic Museum of Athens – a venue full of symbolism and a timeless source of inspiration. Borrowing the Olympic motto – “Faster, Higher, Stronger” – the airline reiterated its unwavering commitment to giving its best, competing at the highest level in the demanding and competitive field of air transportation.

In collaboration with Athens International Airport, the airline welcomed representatives of the media and some of the country’s leading travel agencies to celebrate the successful course of 2024 and to mark the launch of a dynamic summer tourism season.

The year 2024 was a milestone for SKY express. Over 5 million passengers placed their trust in the airline – a figure that represents the greatest reward and confirms the company’s solid position in the market. At the same time, its international network grew with the addition of seven new destinations – Amsterdam, Istanbul, Vienna, Prague, Yerevan, Tbilisi, and Tirana – reaching a total of 22 international destinations. In the same year, its fleet was enhanced with the addition of two new Airbus A320neo and four ATR 72-600, bringing the total number of aircraft to 27 state-of-the-art aircraft.

In 2025, SKY express continues its growth trajectory with the delivery of two (2) more Airbus A320neo. The airline operates the newest and most modern fleet in Greece, with an average age of just 4 years for the Airbus neo and 2.5 years for the ATR 72-600.

At the same time, SKY express is further expanding its international footprint with the launch of five new direct routes from Athens to Berlin, Hamburg, Lisbon, Madrid, and Lyon, significantly enhancing Greece’s connectivity with strategic European hubs.

Specifically:

  • Berlin from October 16 (4 times/week)
  • Hamburg from October 24 (3 times/week)
  • Lisbon from October 24 (3 times/week)
  • Madrid from October 24 (5 times/week)
  • Lyon from December 15 (2 times/week)

This international expansion is a key pillar of the airline’s strategy, which it consistently follows by adding new destinations each year.

With its eyes set firmly on the future, SKY express remains the only Greek airline to operate the largest domestic network with 33 destinations in Greece, and a constantly growing network of 26 international destinations.

Mr. Gerasimos Skaltsas, Chief Commercial Officer of SKY express, stated:

“We are especially pleased to announce today the expansion of our international network with five more international destinations, reaching a total of 59. This continuous expansion is the cornerstone of our growth strategy, which is always focused on the passenger. On the needs of the passenger. We have democratized air travel in Greece. We are the only ones who have achieved so much in such a short period of time. That is why I would like to sincerely thank the entire SKY express team.”

Ms. Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director of Communications & Marketing at Athens International Airport, commented:

“As every year around this time, we kicked off the summer season 2025 together with SKY express, our excellent airline partner! Gathering at the Olympic Museum of Athens – a place of special significance – we had the opportunity, together with tourism professionals and media representatives, to exchange ideas and present all the elements that once again make up the unique SKY express success story at our airport, and define our outstanding collaboration. From a 2.5% market share in 2019, SKY express now holds 12%, thanks to its top-tier, modern air product, its dynamic strategy for sustainable and environmentally responsible growth, and a team of people who plan the company’s next steps every day with enthusiasm, care, and professionalism. Wishing you safe and full flights!”

The evening concluded with a spectacular drone show over the Athens sky, featuring the new destinations. A powerful image that captured SKY express’s vision in the most iconic way: to continue flying – “faster, higher, stronger” – always with the passenger at the center.
