SKY express kicked off 2025 with a strong start, recording significant growth across all key metrics. In the first quarter of the year, the company saw a 10% increase in passenger traffic and an 8.5% increase in revenue compared to the same period in 2024, confirming its consistently upward trajectory.
The expansion abroad remains at the forefront of SKY express' strategy. Specifically, international passenger traffic grew by 27%. In 2024, the company’s international destinations increased from 15 to 22. New destinations added to the flight program include Amsterdam, Istanbul, Vienna, Prague, Yerevan, Tbilisi, and Tirana, effectively enhancing the country's connectivity with strategic international markets.
In response to the growing demand for international destinations, the company also increased its available seats by 33.5% compared to the same period last year.
The company’s operational performance remained a decisive factor in securing market share both domestically and abroad. Thanks to strategic decisions and a significant investment in reliable CFM engines, none of SKY express’ aircraft were grounded. The entire fleet remains fully operational, boosting not only safety, stability, and flexibility in flight operations, but also demonstrating the company’s environmental sensitivity.
Domestically, SKY express continues to maintain its leadership position, serving the largest network of Greek destinations, with 33 points across the country. The increased passenger traffic to and from Athens, up by 10%, Thessaloniki, up by 5.5%, and Heraklion, up by 8.8%, confirms the strategic importance of these key hubs in the development of the company’s domestic network. The trust of the traveling public is also reflected in the fact that in 2024, 5 million passengers chose to fly with SKY express, further strengthening its position as the leading carrier in the Greek market.
It is worth noting that the overall flight operations of the company increased by 5.5%. This positive trend was further supported by the fleet expansion in 2024 with the addition of two (2) Airbus320neo aircraft, bringing the total fleet to 27 aircraft. SKY express boasts the youngest fleet in Greece, with an average age of just 3.5 years for the Airbus aircraft and 2.5 years for the ATR 72-600s.
Its growth trajectory continues into 2025 with the delivery of two (2) additional Airbus320neo aircraft, reaffirming its commitment to further development and offering quality, competitive services.
Commenting on the results, Mr. Gerasimos Skaltsas, Chief Commercial Officer of SKY express, stated: "Q1 2025 marks an exceptionally successful period for SKY express, with international expansion being a constant and strategic pillar of our growth. The 27% increase in international passenger traffic is especially significant, given that during the same period, Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ recorded an increase of just 15%. At the same time, we maintain our leadership position domestically, with the largest network of destinations in Greece. We continue to gain ground in the competitive airline industry, as evidenced by our high load factors, the increase in passenger traffic, and the ongoing expansion of our network. We are becoming the first choice for more and more passengers, both domestically and internationally.”
