And the name shall be …“My Thessaloniki”!

SKY express honors Thessaloniki by naming one of the six newly acquired Airbus A320neo after the city

The official naming ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of In-frastructure and Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis

The name “My Thessaloniki” was chosen by SKY express, the fastest-growing Greek airline for one of the six newly acquired state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo, the "greenest" and most environ-mentally friendly fleet in Greece.

The naming ceremony was carried out by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport in the presence of the Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Konstantinos Zervas, Deputy Regional Governor of the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki Mrs. Voula Patoulidou, the Secretary General of Transport Mr. Yiannis Ksifaras, the CEO of Fraport Greece Mr. Alexander Zinell, the Director of the Prime Minis-ter’s Office in Thessaloniki, Mrs. Maria Antoniou, and representatives of various organizations in Thessaloniki and Northern Greece in general.

This symbolic move demonstrates in practice the strategic importance of Thessaloniki and the entire Macedonia for SKY express. At the same time, this is the company’s way to reciprocate the warmth and great trust with which the residents have embraced SKY express from the very first day of its presence in the city, as they have given it a very satisfactory market share and high load factor in flights, already.

As stated by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis “In the ad-ministration of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we have made the decision to actively support the aviation in-dustry, which has been tested by the pandemic crisis; albeit that, healthy companies remain active granted that this has always been a crucial sector for the economy and our society. It gives us great joy and justifies our policy, to witness dynamic Greek companies, such as SKY express, in conditions of healthy competition, and despite the crisis, to invest, to grow and to vigorously support the Greek economy and the public”.

Respectively, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Konstantinos Zervas congratulated the Head of the IOGR Group Mr. Ioannis Grylos and his team for the impressive performance indicators, but also for the trust demonstrated by the company in Thessaloniki. As he characteristically said, "it is extremely important for the city to fly out towards the world, with such a modern aircraft bearing its name on both its sides".

Mrs. Voula Patoulidou, Deputy Regional Governor of the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki mentioned in her greeting that “My Thessaloniki is the best way possible to strengthen the brand name of the city. We thank dearly SKY express for giving our city the opportunity to communicate with the rest of the world, not only domestically, but also internationally. Happy flights!”.

Mr. Alexander Zinell, CEO Fraport Greece stated: “It is a great pleasure to be here today exact-ly two months since the inauguration of the new “Makedonia” airport terminal; only this time to celebrate the name-giving of the new SKY express Airbus A320neo. Named "My Thessaloniki", it honors not only the city itself, but also its airport. SKY express, with its continuous investment and fleet expansion, is constantly developing its network. Hosting the impressive "My Thessaloniki" at Makedonia airport makes us proud and we wish it many safe travels.”

In his turn, Mr. Ioannis Grylos, Head CEO of the IOGR Group stressed: “SKY express is in a phase of dynamic development. Adding new aircraft, new destinations, and new products. Thessalo-niki has embraced SKY express since the first day of our flights. So we wanted to reciprocate this honor by giving to one of our new aircraft the very name of the city: My Thessaloniki. The event also inaugurated the operation of the new SKY express Lounge at Thessaloniki International Airport "Macedonia", where SKY express passengers will enjoy even better ser-vices on their travels.
